The Hub's inclusion in New_Public's digital spaces directory, a crime and nourishment paper, and more

As September ushers in cooler weather, we are excited for all the Hub activity that will ramp up over the next few months. In the meantime, here are highlights of what’s been going on over the last month.

Nova Campfire: “Nurturing Societies: Cultivating Cooperation for Sustainable Well-Being”

Join us for the next free, virtual Nova Campfire September 25 at 11 am EDT (5 pm CEST/3 pm GMT/8 am PDT). This panel discussion will explore how nurturing environments and cultivating positive aspects of human nature (including empathy, compassion, and altruism and “light triad” personality traits) may accelerate collaborative cultural shifts to benefit individuals, societies, and our relationship with nature. Register here and afterward, continue the conversation in the Nova Campfire group!

Nova Integration Hub Included in New_Public’s Digital Spaces Directory

Exciting news — the Nova Integration Hub has been included in New_Public’s digital spaces directory! We’re in there along with some interesting digital spaces, including biggies like LinkedIn, X, NextDoor, Threads, Hylo, etc. New_Public describes themselves as researchers, engineers, designers, and community leaders working together to explore creating digital public spaces where people can thrive and connect. They conduct “signature research into the qualities necessary for online spaces to thrive” — they call these Civic Signals.
Happy to see the Hub meeting several of those Civic Signals criteria and listed in their directory!

There is Still Time to Complete the Nova Hub User Survey

We are still happily welcoming responses to the Hub User Survey. In answering six questions, you can help us understand how users are using the Hub and opportunities that you’d like to see. Please log in to the Hub and take a moment to share your thoughts!

In Discussions

  • Check out this recently published Crime and Nourishment paper, a collaborative effort that emerged from the recent Nova Campfire, “Food Justice: Avoiding an Ultra-Processed Future.”
  • Read about Federica Lari’s quest to connect with and learn from master plant uña de gato – cat’s claw (uncaria tomentosa), a woody vine native to the Amazon rainforest in her recollection of her first “Dieta”.
  • Parenting is Stressful. The Surgeon General’s new advisory struck a chord with Hub users as they agree with the need to call attention to the stress of parenting and what can be done as a society to address it.
  • In the spirit of integration, this article highlight focuses on the dynamic interplay between social systems and ecological environments, and explores how these systems are increasingly interconnected and how changes in one sphere can significantly impact the other.

…and many more in the Discussions page!

In Groups

  • Artists in Residence: new mixed media on paper from Hub user and multimedia artist Kevin Dwight Richardson. Feel free to share your pieces!
  • Nova4Nature – some final summer nature photos and a segment about how Poet Laureate Ada Limón is bringing poetry to U.S. national parks.
  • Mentoring Research Network – September events are spotlighted in the latest post from researchers and scholars in the global South.
  • Cultivating Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being – an article exploring the youth mental health crisis and the many layers of influence. Resulting discourse suggests the comments section of the article would be suitable for content analysis for a grad student. Any takers?
  • Nova Meditations and Practices – the latest guided meditation encourages us to let go and loosen the ties to our old habits and fears.
  • Consciousness Conversations – a discussion around the idea that water molecules can respond to energy, positive or negative words, music, and even emotions, leading to the visually stunning formation of crystals when frozen.

You’re invited: Help co-create the future of Nova’s digital communities

After three years of sparking connection and dialogue around transformative ideas in health and flourishing, the Nova Integration Hub will be closing on November 12, 2026. We’re currently in the lab developing new online community building initiatives—and you’re invited to help shape what comes next.

From the beginning, the Hub was created as a communal space that would help break down silos and foster dialogue across disciplines. It has been an experiment in connecting the dots, and with over 42 member-created groups and 654 active discussions, it has been a meaningful gathering place—a space where so many of you have generously shared ideas, wisdom, and inspiration in service of a more integrated and compassionate approach to health and well‑being. That spirit will carry forward into our next chapter.

As we look ahead, our goal is simple: Continue to pilot innovative forums for broad audiences to engage with researchers, creatives, educators, clinicians, policymakers, advocates, community organizers, journalists—anyone who wants to make a change in the world. We want to provide welcoming opportunities for conversation that will foster belonging rather than othering. We want to make unexpected connections that will lead us to the next bold leaps forward in health. Above all, we aim to spark joy and optimism about what’s possible for the planet we share.

So, where shall we go next? Your feedback about the Hub is extraordinarily meaningful to us, so please RSVP to attend one of our upcoming virtual town halls on Wednesday, November 4 at 3 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time and Thursday, November 12 at 3 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time. You may also submit comments in writing via our community listening form.

On behalf of the entire Nova team, we’re grateful for your participation, your curiosity, and your eagerness to share your perspectives on the Hub. Please visit Nova’s website at novainstituteforhealth.org and subscribe to our newsletter for the latest updates.
