Activity across the Hub and this month’s Coffee and Conversations sparked lively discussion on everything from The Gilded Age to the value of diverse perspectives in science. It was a treat to watch these ideas unfold. Take a look at some highlights. Hope you’ll join next month!

Meet Barry Bogin, emeritus professor of biological anthropology at Loughborough University, whose work explores human growth, nutritional ecology, and how SEPE forces shape development. A father of three and advocate for the transformative power of love in childhood, Barry brings both scientific insight and human compassion to his research, from studies of Maya communities to co-founding Joy of Music, a charity providing support to adults with low-level emotional issues via appreciating and playing music. Barry plays the drums!
What are your interests? My interests are in human physical growth and development, nutritional ecology, Maya people of Central America and Maya families in the United States, and human evolution and adaptation.
What are you working on that most excites you? The work that most excites me at this time is research to explain how SEPE forces influence human physical development. I am working with a student from India to understand how SEPE forces influence health and aging. We are using data from the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI), which is a nationally representative survey of people aged 45 years and older.
What do you welcome Hub users to connect with you about? Hub users may contact me about any of my interests. Viewing my 2023 Nova Annual Conference presentation, “Measuring the Impact of Love and Hope for Individuals and Society,” may help Hub users to see where we share or overlap interests.
